How to Change a QR Code After Printing
Printed a QR code and now the link is wrong, or the menu has changed? Whether you can fix it without reprinting depends on what kind of QR code it is.
1. Check whether your code is static or dynamic
Scan it with your phone’s camera and look at the address it shows before opening. If it’s your own website, the code is static. If it’s a short address from a QR service (such as mrqr.link/…), it’s dynamic.
2. If it’s dynamic: edit the destination
- Log in to the service you made it with.
- Open the QR code and change the link (or the details).
- Save. The printed code now goes to the new destination — test it with your phone.
In MisterQR, open the code from your dashboard, choose Edit, change the link and save. You can even switch it to a different type, like WhatsApp or a contact card.
3. If it’s static: your options
- If it points to your own website, redirect that old address to the new page on your site.
- Otherwise you’ll need a new code. Make it dynamic this time, so this never happens again.
- For a quick fix, print the new code as a sticker to put over the old one.
4. If your dynamic code stopped working
Codes made during a free trial are often paused or redirected to a service page when the trial ends. You can usually reactivate them by paying for that service — the printed code can’t be moved to another provider, because the short address belongs to them.
